This property was no longer viable as a public house and the owner approached me to look at possible options for bringing the building back into use. It is one of many important historical buildings in the seaside town of Great Yarmouth and is Listed Grade II*, probably a former merchant’s house, and dating from the early seventeenth century.
In structurally poor condition with major subsidence it required a substantial refurbishment to bring it back into use and secure its future in the long term.
I put together a design that was acceptable to the planners and conservation officer for converting and extending the property into a number of self-contained apartments.
Planning and Listed Building Consents were obtained and the owner went ahead with Phase 1 of the project which was the conversion of the existing building with the construction of the extension containing a further seven apartments to commence in the near future.
I acted as lead consultant, architectural designer, project manager and party wall surveyor.
