Since 1 July 1997, this Act has obliged anyone undertaking works of a structural nature to or near the party wall or property boundary, such as the installation of beams, installation of damp proof coursing or other structural works, to notify all adjoining owners, irrespective of whether planning permission has been applied for or granted. Depending on how the adjoining property owner responds to the notice, or if no response is received, you may have to appoint a surveyor to act on your behalf to operate the requirements of the Act.
